Very very pleased with everything. The product must have been dropped during shipping, because the plastic hopper on top had a crack in it. Great product. Got it for a gift, and they love it. I contacted Baratza, and they shipped out a new hopper no questions asked.
Take it apart and start playing with the screws inside until its good enough. The companies solution. this grinder is total crap and you will be asking yourself "what was i thinking." when you realize just how terrible the design on this grinder is.Agree or not, please dont say that you were not warned. If you are the type of person that likes to get a new item and then take it apart because it isnt designed to work with a decent espresso machine, then this is the product for you.I have a gaggia baby and both of the Baratza Virtuoso grinders that I have dont work with it. They are simply NOT designed to grind espresso beans fine enough for the Gaggia machines. I cant emphasize this enough.
It is fair to say that this has been one of the top five purchasing blunders in my life. I've tried spoon, wooden skewer, finger, cleaning brush, and a toothbrush, all with lackluster results. Like me, if you purchase this product, you will end up looking for various items around the house to push the beans into the grinder. Period. This grinder will not work for dark to medium dark roast beans. The beans simply fail to feed into the burr grinder. Its all rather comical, until I realize that there's beans all over the floor, the stupid metal timer knob has fallen off, very little grounds, and I spent 200 bucks on this thing.
It grinds gorgeously and you can choose how fine/coarse you want the grind. Anyone with hand/joints issues, this has no handle to pull out the container that holds the ground coffee.
So, I'll be a bit anxious about how long it will work effectively and intact.Still, I'm happy with how it works so far, just not so happy that I'd give it a perfect score. No biggie.
You have to grasp it by the edges and pull, which can be hard for some folks.The only reason I worry about the quality is that the little knob that you turn to choose how long it will grind has already fallen off once. But a grinder THIS expensive should not have loose parts coming off after only 2 weeks of use.
I've been using this for three weeks. I put it at 16 for my drip coffee.It's easy to use if you don't have some hand issues (ie, arthritis).
I put it back in.
Adjusting the grind is simply and predictably done by rotating the bean hopper during grind operation and the ground coffee is cleanly deposited into the lower ground coffee hopper. The machine is solid and has noticeable heft. I use the timer when grinding and it is so reliable in the amount of coffee dispensed that I can eliminate using a measuring spoon when I am grinding to feed a french press. I have had this grinder for approximately 6 months. It has worked flawlessly from the its first use. It still amazes me that no coffee dust is present in the area around the machine - unless I return the ground coffee hopper back to the machine with residual coffee on its upper surface.
